What do you think has prevented the City of Hamilton from adopting bold new policies to redirect its economy over the last three decades?

I would like to respond to your question:
"What do you think has prevented the City of Hamilton from adopting bold new policies to redirect its economy over the last three decades?"

As a staffer, I have witnessed City Hall - both politically and staff wise - being stuck in the rut of the past. Staff are not motivated to come up with bold new policies for Council to debate and pass. If new ideas are floated, they are quickly shot down by people intent on protecting their turf.
Consultants are hired at great expense to write recommendations that are obvious.
That is why, Mr Butani, I really like your idea of setting up Innovate Hamilton. Give citizens the opportunity and forum to promote new ideas and policies for the 21st century and for sustainable growth.
Way to go !

Great initiatives Mr. Butani. I see you have been listening to your potential constituents in the social networking sphere.

InnoHa or more specifically your HamiltonGreenPort, RemoTWorx and CoreHealth initiatives are exactly what has been missing for thirty years from Hamilton's vision. These kinds of bold new policies are what we most need, right now, if we're gonna stay afloat in the unpredictably assuaging new global-loco economy.

Wow, hovercrafts, IT all sounds so crazy, almost like a Cottage Industry Revival to me and I believe this is precisely what is needed, immediately! I also see from your HamiltonGreenPort map that the east-west axis runs directly through and adjacent to The new Centre on Barton, the Ottawa Street North and proposed Kenilworth BIA's. I support these areas as a consumer and I recognize the imperative of a Barton Street rejuvenation to the success of this model.

Personally however, I could not possibly define what has specifically prevented Hamilton from adopting bold new policies better than City Staffer did in the previous post. Although I am on the outside looking in and my perspective is not so dim. Out here the lights of innovation are glaring brightly and there is an election coming soon too. I know what must be done and with whom I most swoon, even though there be, so very few, in tune.
